We shot a big scene this past weekend.It was one of the toughest and most complex, and also one of the most important. I really can't tell you much about it with out giving anything away, so I guess this blog is more for the cast and crew than anybody else. The scene has to do with Iris, her parents, and the Ross-Prentiss academy girls, as well as change, death, resurrection, and love. More than anything, it's about love. The cast and crew might have some kind of apoplexy reading that, but if they search deep, they'll see I'm right. Horrible things have been done in the name of love. At it's worst, it can be a selfish, cruel emotion.
I tried to play the following Tool song while we were rehearsing a big moment in the scene but with the chaos of the shoot, it was a rushed harried time. So much of shooting a film is like that. You want to stop, connect with the people on set, and savor the moment, but most of the time you just rush to get the shot and try, which is often futile, to stay on schedule. However, there are those moments of true wonder that occur, and despite the very long hours my wonderful cast and crew spent shooting this weekend, there were many.
Anyway, I just wanted to post the lyrics to "10,000 Days" by Tool because it always makes me think of this scene and change, and love, and how sometimes the only thing we can do for someone we love is to spare them anymore pain.
