Eric Hegmann’s ten golden rules for the perfect flirt

Flirting is not a secret art that only experts can master and it is not about being a one trick pony - learning one technique which will always work.

It is the art of winning someone over and with a dose of courage, a sprinkling of optimism and the right amount of confidence everyone can do it.

Ten rules for flirting

Identify your strengths and weaknesses, then you will know why different people respond in different ways to you.

First impressions are crucial so take care of your appearance, manners and the way you sound in the first few minutes of meeting someone.

Smile - you'll show you are really interested in what they have to say.

It sounds easy but it isn't always that simple. Our fourth rule is to just be yourself.

Be bold. Try new things. It shows that you are ambitious.

Pay them compliments and be positive.

Give them the impression that you feel comfortable and that you want to flirt with them.

Be humourous and don't take the situation too seriously.

Don't be obtrusive or force yourself on them.

If someone starts flirting with you who you don't want to flirt with, let them down gently without rejecting them.
