Japan's Haruna Ai won the Miss International Queen 2009 transvestite beauty pageant Saturday in Pattaya, beating Thailand's Kangsadal Wongducsadeekul for the crown.
Haruna was among 18 contestants in the last round of the contest held Saturday night at Tiffany’s Show which is billed the world's largest transsexual cabaret.
Kyodo reported that Haruna was awarded $10,000 (RM34,125), a tiara and a trophy.

Twenty-one contestants from around the world participated in the fifth pageant.
With entrants from the Philippines, Japan, USA, Thailand, China, Brazil, Malaysia, Nepal, Peurto Rico, Singapore, Spain, UK and Venezuela all featuring a slant on their national cultures, everyone is eagerly looking forward to the final judging of the “Miss International Queen 2009” on the night of Saturday 31st October at the “Tiffany Theatre” in north Pattaya.
The Miss International Queen contest is aimed at the promotion of tolerance and positive attitude towards transsexuals and transvestites.
Millions in Thailand, a country well known for its tolerance and acceptance of transsexuals, watched the contest live on televsion on Saturday.
No doubt the judges had a very difficult time deciding the place getters in such a star studded group of entrants, but finally selected Japan’s M/s Haruna Ai as the winner of the “Angel of Talent 2009” contest. This was a very agreeable decision, as those who had been following the entrants closely for several days generally agreed that Haruna Ai exuded a charm and charisma that was absolutely delightful.
