Japanese fans propose to Susan Boyle at Tokyo airport
Boylemania has hit Japan, with Susan Boyle's arrival causing excited fans to flock to see the star in the flesh - and, in some cases, propose.
Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle got the surprise of her life when she landed at the Tokyo international airport as two of her admirers begged her to marry them.
The pleas, however, fell on deaf ears as Boyle smiled and waved while security teams ushered her through Narita International Airport on her first-ever visit to Japan, reports mirror.co.uk.
Akiyama Hanako, 56, who had waited seven hours to see Boyle, compared her arrival to the pandemonium caused by the Beatles visit in 1966.
"There is so much affection for Susan. She is an idol to us. Everyone wants to meet her. I was near the front but got pushed aside when she appeared. One gentleman kept on saying Susan, 'kekkon shite kudasai!' He was asking her to marry him over and over again. We have not seen scenes like this since the Beatles," said Hanako.
Moments later another fan was seen bending down on his knees while holding a rose and proclaiming his undying love for the singer. He also asked for her hand in marriage.
Boyle appeared on the country's biggest New Years Eve show "Kohaku Uta Gassen" and sang a traditional Japanese song. She also sang her trademark "I dreamed a dream", the title track to her No.1 debut album.
She is the first international singer in years to be invited by the NHK channel to perform on the show, which is watched by up to 40 million people.
UPDATE:
Susan Boyle Teams Loses Kohaku Uta Gassen
The Susan Boyle female Red Team has lost the 60th Kohaku Uta Gassen in Japan.
Kohaku Uta Gassen is the most watched music show in Japan.
You would think when the had the singer of the year`s that you would have the advantage but the female “Red” team lost out to the male “White” team this year.
The “White” team has won Kohaku Uta Gassen for the last six years in the row.
While mainly Japanese singers, the show does occasionally invite an international singer in to compete. Over the years, Paul Simon, Andy Williams, Cyndi Lauper and Sarah Brightman have appeared on Kohaku Uta Gassen. This year, Susan Boyle was granted the honor.
Susan should not feel too put out about losing Kohaku Uta Gassen. After all, she also came second on Britain’s Got Talent this year. Does anyone actually remember who won?
