The Travelers Championship will be held June 23rd to the 26th and the venue is the TPC River Highlands, which is an amazing golf course located in Cromwell, Connecticut, and certainly worthy of play by the professionals on the PGA Tour. The purse for this tournament is $6,000,000 and it is worth $1,080,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points. Bubba Watson was the big winner last year, taking first place with fourteen under. He'll be back again this year to defend. Corey Pavin and Scott Verplank tied for second and Chris Riley came in fourth. 

The Travelers Championship has been slotted in the week immediately following the U.S. Open since 2007. Checking in at 6,841 yards, the par-70 TPC River Highlands is the third-shortest course on the PGA TOUR schedule, and its scoring average has been sub-69.50 for the last three years, so it's been a welcome destination to the touring pros leaving the grind of the season's second major.

This time around, however, Congressional played a relatively easy +1.993 strokes to par; that's the first time a U.S. Open has averaged lower than +2.9 since 2003. Therefore, there may be more positive carryover for the eight in the field in Connecticut that finished inside the top 25 in Maryland. Five are featured below.

And while courses like PGA National and Quail Hollow boast difficult three-hole stretches better known as The Bear Trap and The Green Mile, respectively, this week's field will find some comfort in knowing that The Golden Triangle -- holes 15, 16 and 17 at TPC River Highlands, which play to a par 4-3-4 -- averaged 10.967 strokes last year. (The 15th was the only member of the trio with an under-par clip at -0.218 strokes to par.)

A fair threat of inclement weather is expected Thursday and could last through Saturday. As the risk diminishes, the temperatures will rise into the low 80s. Despite the energy moving through, the early forecast calls for light winds throughout.
