A lot of couples do that thinking if they put that permanence on their body, the relationship will last forever. There's no guarantee
If you think that getting matching tattoos would help relationship last forever, then you need to reconsider the idea – for it didn’t work well for Lindsay Lohan-Samantha Ronson and Rihanna-Chris Brown.
"It's a terrible idea," ‘New York Daily News’ quoted Dr. Jeffrey Rand of New York's Tattoo Removal Centre as saying.
"All you need to do is look at the divorce rate [and] beyond that, the break-up rate of relationships before marriage," he added.
Jolie had hers removed after splitting from Billy Bob Thornton in 2003
Angelina Jolie's "Billy Bob" dragon tattoo also didn’t work, for the actress had to split from her ex-husband in 2003.
"When we're so madly in love with a partner it''s associated with the same feeling of being addicted to drugs," said couples therapist Rachel Sussman.
"A lot of couples do that thinking if they put that permanence on their body, the relationship will last forever. There's no guarantee," she added.
Rand said that most of his workday is spent lasering off names or matching tattoos from a love affair gone bust.
"There's no more motivated person than someone who wants to have a matching tattoo removed," he said.
Sussman advices, "Buy roses, buy chocolate, buy a puppy and share it. Don't get matching tattoos."
