President Obama has announced that Osama Bin Ladin has been killed just days after WikiLeaks released that "an al-Qaeda commander claims that a such a dirty bomb will apparently be detonated [in Europe] if Osama bin Laden is captured or assassinated." Over the years "the Bogeyman" has released many audio and video tapes that to some prove, he was alive, and others claim are fraudulant. Recently we saw formal statement on a great blog we are following called the Guerilla Garden Blog. The Guerilla Garden Studios is a collective of artists from Denver U.S.A. Guerilla Garden Studios claim that their art work, and their image has been associated with organized crime in a slanderous way by The History Channel. We have not seen the show in question, but as working community artists we are deeply concerned, especially as it is by a Channel claiming to be a source of History. Recently, national television has misrepresented Denver’s community. On March 5th, 2010 the History Channel aired an episode of Gangland with a segment on North Denver. During the segment the History Channel producers made an erroneous claim against the community art advocate Mr. Jeremy Silas Ulibarri, aka Jolt. The Gangland episode made a heinous association between a gang called North Side Mafia [NSM] and Jolt’s trademark “guerilla-gorilla.” Without checking their informational sources, the History Channel produced a montage that borrows Jolt’s well-known guerilla-gorilla and appropriated it for exploitive, entertainment purposes.
This misinformation threatens local businesses and residents that have commissioned Mr. Ulibarri’s public artwork, who proudly display his guerilla-gorilla. Within hours of airing the Gangland episode at least one local business with Jolt’s work was vandalized . Community members and businesses that support Mr. Ulibarri and his advocacy work are now threatened by slander. But far more concerning is the potential reaction from gangs regarding the misinformation from the History Channel episode.
We are concerned that the History Channel’s portrayal of North Denver could potentially increase gang related activity by falsely associating Mr. Ulibarri’s community work with the North Side Mafia. This letter is to firmly state for the record that Mr. Ulibarri has never been affiliated with gang activity. Throughout his tenure of community advocacy Jolt has worked towards the positive ends of encouraging community engagement through art.
It is unfortunate that Jolt’s work is now being associated with exactly the opposite of his mission statement, which is to “enhance the aesthetics of the urban environment through community projects and public art.” We know that through community support the erroneous claims made by the History Channel in regards to Jolt’s work will be corrected.

Recently, there has been a huge trend in cheap Television series focussing on "The Worlds Most Dangerous Cities/Prisons/Gangs" etc. These shows often use Police surveillance and CCTV footage while not only financially preferable as the footage is cheap and dramatic, but also appear to many as excuses to show extreme violence on Television, often justified as "journalism". These sensationalized "Crime Porn" shows, are usually extremely badly researched, as the concept for some new ones add an aspect of Reality Show to it. In the U.K. many of them feature Crime Fiction authors, actors who play "Tough Guys", or Musicians, voyeuristically going around Favelas, Hoods etc talking to anyone who will talk crazy. While on one hand it is very good that a wider variety of peoples experiences and stories can be exposed, there motives are questionable.
In London, a community Art group called Signal Project was "framed" in a similar way. Members of The Kool Skool and several other graffiti writers took part in a series of Art workshops with young people from all over a particular area, and completed a massive community mural in an area well known for street crime and youth murders. We have to our disgust, seen the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 use the mural many times, as the backdrop for interviews with young people (often with their faces covered for extra dramatics) talking about guns, gangs and their crime histories. The day after reading the above statement we happened to change over to a show dedicated to "Girls in Gangs" and there our Community Mural was AGAIN being used as a "gritty street scene"!!! The mural has also featured in a now infamous film about Football violence and numerous Crime dramas... Many of the young people these interviews were conducted with are NOT EVEN FROM THIS AREA! Despite being framed in this negative light, the Mural has actively REDUCED CRIME in this particular area!!!! The local council put lights up in the location, and as many people came into the area to view the mural, became too hot for crime....
As the budgets plummet and competition within the Television industry gets fiercer, we will see (what would seem like any normal person as critical in the documentary/jouranlistic process) Research cut. So it is up to us to pull these Television Companies up, and if, as is often the case independent companies are not "in house", make sure that Television Companies ensure that the Commissions Editors set a standard of correct Research practices.
We hope Guerilla Garden Studios recieve a full retraction from the History Channel, as it could effect the artist financially, future commission prospects, and could risk the artist being put on some "Gang member list", or worse... Coming up on North London based Saxon Sound; they successfully fused the reggae toast style with Hip hop MCing, a style that many US MC's made Millions biting!

Personally I feel it was as important as Ultramagnetic MC's first album Critical Beatdown, and like that crew, its now recognised that The Demon Boyz were ahead of their time also.

Easy Brother please tell the people some of the exciting recent developments in Dappa-world?
Yes Shucks! Good to see you maan! Developments?!!! Where do I start?! 2006 has been the biggest year in my career so far man, it's consisted of big single releases, big video releases, big touring, and the BIGGEST thing... the birth of my own independent record company - MILLION DAPPA RECORDS. We joined forces with one of the biggest urban music distribution companies in Europe 'BOOMBOX DISTRIBUTION' and from the word 'GO' it has been success after success!
I've been following the success, but for the readers that may not know. Please tell them exactly what's been happening?
Our first release was the Million Dan single entitled 'PULL UP'. Also on that single was my groundbreaking 'DOGZ N SLEDGEZ' tune, and a new joint called 'TEK MICROPHONE', and of course the 'Pull Up Remix' (the mix featured on the Pull Up video). The Single went straight into the Radio One World Hip hop Chart at number THREE!!! The song instantly got play listed right across the Radio One network. Other radio station also championed the song, along with the biggest club DJs bangin' the tune hard on the dance floors. The Pull Up Video also had the same success, with the video being playlisted on MTV Base and Channel U, which is now the most viewed Hip hop video channel in Europe. Channel U ran phone in competitions for the Song and Video, and all together the whole project was a complete success. We're now really looking forward to 07
So what's the story with the InfraRed Mixtape man? Give us the low down?
During the summer of 2006, Million Dappa Records and our distribution company thought it would be perfect to drop a hot mixtape at the beginning of 2007. While having big success with the single, we then thought, "yo! Now would be a good time to debut my first ever mixtape to the masses." So that's exactly what we did! I jumped into the studio with my good bredrin DJ 'Daddy' Skitz - who I was touring with at the time. We went straight to work man. We took some of the biggest tunes, and assembled the biggest Hip hop/Bashment artists in the known Universe, then I said " Yeah, let me go in wid dem!!!" Even before the project was finished, word went around the industry like FIRRRE! I had niggaz callin' me at all time of the day and night asking me for early exclusive previews to dat shit!!! I was like yo man, you're gonna have to waaaait!!!
Siiick! On a more serious note though, just to get it correct people have to understand that The InfraRed Mixtape is more like a pre-album, rather than a conventional mixtape right?
Most definitely! It's a musical journey, which allows the listener to hear some heavy tunes, as well as get to know and understand Million Dan. It features some of the most talented MC's EVER to hold a microphone, and reflects Million Dan's musical influences, which range from Hip hop to reggae.

I don't think people are ready!!! Can you give us an idea of some of your guests?
Infrared features some true heavyweights from around the world. To name but only a few, from the U.S. there are artists like Busta Rhymes, Nas and Mobb Deep. From Jamaica we've got Bounty Killer, Assassin and Sizzla. Last but not least, back to the UK's finest Demon Boyz, Rodney P and MC D. Of course to top it off, its mixed by the one and only DJ 'Daddy' Skitz from BBC Radio 1xtra. The InfraRed Mixtape is the beginning of a concept, of which the heavily anticipated 'Spektrum Ride' album will follow later in 2007.
You also recently had the big song and video "Devon Cream" with MC D, Rodney P and DJ First Aid. What's the deal with that?!
Yeahhh Shucks, that was the other BIG current news I knew you were gonna ask me about! Yo, I've played the leading role featuring on another smash tune hitting ALL the major, and pirate radio stations across the board. The song features me alongside two of the UK's finest RODNEY P and MC D. Produced by a bredrin of ours - DJ First Aid; this song is hurting everything in its wake! I had a strong feeling the Devon Cream song was going to do well. So prior to the release I asked the biggest Hip hop producer in the U.K right now BABY J and Baby Knotted Films his video production company to make the video. Baby J agreed and Baby Knotted Films then went on to creating one of the BEST urban videos of 2006. MTV BASE and CHANNEL U have also play listed the video.
It seems like you are not slacking off at all man! Put the listeners out of their misery, when is the album coming out and what can we expect?
Hahahah! The Spektrum album is simply gonna be an absolute show stoppin' killerrrrrrrrrr!!! The songs I have recorded for Spektrum so far, and the artists featuring on the album are gonna have people saying; "yeah, it's about time we've had a REAL album hit the streets." I'm still putting the finishing touches on the album, and believe me… It's gonna be a Juggernaut when it drops.
Can you give us an impression of who are some of the artists out there you are feeling at the moment?
Yeah definitely, let me break that one down into countries...top three from each...

The Kool Skool went along to show our support to the Not Another Drop March through the Brent Borough. It was a beautiful day, and there appeared to be well over 350 people, and considering the media tells you that, (especially young) people are "apathetic", it was amazing to see. Immediately one thing that did stand out was the apparent lack of Media presence, no BBC London, ITN not a single film crew... Perhaps the Media is apathetic?

It was very humbling to see so many people united for such a worthy cause. It wasn't a political March in the traditional sense, it was concerned neighbors, family and citizens coming together to demand change. The marchers represented all Races, Ages, Sexes, Religions and Nationalities that make up London united against violence and gang violence.

It is mixture of scholoraly and methodical look at the Assassinaion of Martin Luther King Jr. by Mark Lane; and a sensitive and personal discussion of the life and career of the Nobel Prize winning Minister by Dick Gregory.

Mark Lane is a U.S attorney, anti-war/Civil Rights activist opposed segregation as a Freedom Rider, and has founded many investigative organizations representing Native Americans, Vietnam Vetertans and questioning the official findings of the Warren Commission (J.F.K. Assassination investigation) amonst many others. His #1 selling book "Rush To Judgement" was one of the first books to question the findings of the Warren Commission.

Dick Gregory is a Comedian, Civil Rights Worker, Author and Political Activist. He was a friend of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and often performed comedy before Dr. M.L.K. Jr. spoke to crowds around the Southern states. He has been arrested many times in protests, is a raw fruit and vegetable diet advocate, amonst other accolades.
The Kool Skool's Shucks One will be displaying a new painting at an exiting mix of contemporary artists at the Dalston Super Store in East London. The show is called Dirty Laundry and the artists have been asked to intemperate the phrase into new works.
