Taiwan's military apologised Tuesday after revealing photos of female soldiers were circulated on the Internet, five months after a group of male troops were punished over a sex video.
"We wish to express our sincere apologies... for the internal management problems," Liu Chih-chian, a spokesman of the Combined Logistics Command, told a news conference.
Taiwanese TV and newspapers ran photos of a sergeant, identified only by her surname Chen, lifting her uniform to show her bra, apparently while at her barracks.
The photos, originally posted on Chen's blog, also showed her and two female colleagues sticking out their middle fingers in a rude gesture, as well as two other military women preparing to French kiss.
The case could lead to Chen's dismissal as she has violated military regulations, the Command said.
The photos were the latest in a series of scandals to hit the island's military, and stoked heated criticism from both the ruling and opposition parties.
"The military is sick and its morals are loose and corrupted. The soldiers are behaving like pole dancers," said opposition lawmaker Tsai Huang-liang.
Seventeen servicemen were punished in July over a video involving two male sergeants engaged in homosexual acts while on duty, in an incident that sparked public outrage.
UPDATE:
Brit cops rapped after students take saucy snaps in police station
London, Dec 16 : Four girls posing in a police station in Britain have left cops embarrassed, especially after the saucy photos were posted on the Internet.
The four girls were pictured wearing helmets, jackets and even boots in a locker room, inside a riot van and bent over a patrol car after being taken in for interview following a bar brawl.
The four young women, from left, Grace Slights, Giorgia Spencer, Abi Vyse and Susie Mandleberg, posed in fluorescent jackets against the side of a riot van
The pictures were then posted on Facebook - to the deep embarrassment of Staffordshire Police.
A spokesman said the force and the officers involved 'regretted' the incident at Burton-upon-Trent station, saying the two PCs and an acting sergeant on duty had admitted failing to keep the girls under control.
Images of the girls dressing up inside Burton Police Station, Staffs, were posted on Facebook
An internal investigation has been launched into how these pictures were taken behind closed doors at one of the country's most secure police stations, and the officers have been moved to other parts of the county.
The incident happened after officers were called to a report of a brawl at the town's Barracuda bar late on December 5.
Three officers were disciplined after the suggestive photos emerged
A 22-year-old woman was arrested over the brawl and taken to the police station, followed by the four students, two of whom were alleged victims with the other two being treated as potential witnesses.
Abi Vyse, 17, Grace Slights, 18, Giorgia Spencer, 18, and Susie Mandleberg, 17 - are understood to live in and around the affluent village of Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, and attend a local specialist science college.
Vyse, one of the alleged victims, was pictured trying on a pair of police boots in the men's locker room after being taken to an adjoining washroom to wash off blood from her hair and face.
Other pictures were taken while the two alleged victims were taken to interview rooms, when their friends were left in supposedly secure waiting rooms.
One photo showed them posing in hats and fluorescent jackets they found inside a police van and was taken moments before they were driven back to the town centre in the vehicle.
The assault suspect was later released without charge.
'The force and the officers involved very much regret the negative way that the photographs and the circumstances in which they were taken could be perceived,' Sky News quoted Assistant Chief Constable Mick Harrison as saying.
'The three officers involved have now been spoken to by senior officers and transferred to operational roles elsewhere within the divisional policing area.
'We are extremely disappointed by these events and will be doing everything possible to prevent a similar occurrence in the future,' he said.
Harrison said the officers made several attempts to stop the women taking photos.
'These were not heeded or firmly enforced,' he added.
A spokesman for the Taxpayers' Alliance added: 'How this has been allowed to happen in a police station of all places completely beggars belief.'
