Eighties Fashion Style

She's the pop singer seen jogging in Central Park. Madonna captured the style and fashion sense of generation. Especially teenage girls in the 1980s. Madonna is among the most influential people of the 1980s.

Madonna has always had a special relationship with the media. While many stars try desperately to avoid the paparazzi, Madonna has the power to manipulate the media to her advantage.

In 1985 Madonna ruled the airwaves and MTV too. Madonna at her peak was making music, videos and even movies at a fevered pace. Madonna had the media all sewn up by the mid 1980s. Madonna never had too much trouble from the paparazzi. She, in fact, seemed to embrace the photographers throughout her early career.

From her wildly teased and colored hair to the return of lace and fishnet stockings, her accessories were outrageous, and girls around the world wanted to be like Madonna even going so far as to add her trademark mole to their cheeks.

Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week as always was a major destination for the designer crowd recently. Boasting some of the hottest names in the industry and an A grade guest list, Paris is the home of Haute Courture.

Naturally plenty of press were on hand to give a blow by blow description of each days high and low lights. Now that the closing ceremony has come and gone the critics have given their overview of proceedings and as always it has involved an over use of adjectives and overstating the obvious.

Native Sun recently hosted the 2nd Annual Dog Wash to benefit First Coast No More Homeless Pets ("FCNMHP"). The mission of FCNMHP is to end shelter euthanasia of healthy cats and dogs through their free and low-cost spay/neuter programs. They raised $865 from the event this year. We brought in Joey (seen in the photo above) to get washed, he seemed to have a good time hanging out with the other dogs and left smelling fresh and clean. For more info they have a website and a Facebook page. Their next event is a photo session by Micheal J Portraits from July 16th-18th. FCNMHP will receive 100% of the sitting fee. Families and pets welcome and business headshots available.

Dreaming Of Cabo

I miss Mexico so much it's starting to be painful.  I've been going there since I was a kid, almost all our family vacations were in Baja, then as a teen ager I used to tell my parents I was going to the movies when really I was crossing the border raging in bars in Tijuana with my entire high school.  (They were a little lax checking id's.....)  As I got older I spent many weekends camping there with friends and every Christmas for 8 years bringing loads of gifts to an orphanage (which was the greatest feeling ever, funny how giving gives the giver so much) but then the INSANE violence began three years ago and I haven't been down there since, it's just too dangerous. What's going on in the border towns of Mexico is an absolute tragedy and it tears my heart apart.  Since I can no longer feel safe cruising a few hours south I've decided I must manifest a trip to gorgeous Cabo where it seems to be relatively safe.......

Happy Memorial Day!!

Andy Samberg's Movie Update - "A$$ Backwards"

So, what do we know about A$$ Backwards?

According to Wikipedia, the film was written by Casey Wilson and her Upright Citizens Brigade colleague, June Diane Raphael, co-writers of Bride Wars (the Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, and Candice Bergen comedy).

Casey and June nabbed supporting roles in the film.

So that hit has given them a few new projects, including this project, which they put together as their first starring roles. And if that's true, and they are still set to star in this film, then they will be joined by a stellar supporting cast, including...

Anne Hathaway (obviously they met on Bride Wars)

Anna Faris (June and Casey are reworking scripts for her)

Kate Hudson (obviously they met on Bride Wars)

Andy Samberg (our hero)

David Cross (Arrested Development)

Amy Sedaris (from Strangers with Candy)

Stephen Colbert (Strangers with Candy, Daily Show, SNL, and Colbert Report)

Abby Elliott (Yay!!! Abby's first film!)

Meanwhile, Casey and June are also lining up "The Bachelorette Party," starring Jennifer Garner and Anna Farris. It's being described as "The Hangover" for the ladies. So that one's more likely to be the hit they need to keep going, and it's likely to make them a hot commodity... writers who put together successful female comedies (which is pretty rare, because I'm not including rom-coms/romantic comedies that also rely on the male leads).

Thanks to Anony for pointing out some of this info.

Enjoy!

Buakaw vs Jordan Watson

I assume most of you guys reading this blog don't keep up with Muay Thai or are familiar with the big names.

We don't exactly have a lot of outlets for watching pro MT here, so I can't say I blame you. It's hard to get into something without the buzz.

So here's the latest in the MT world...Buakaw fought in London against a young fighter Jordan Watson over the weekend. If you didn't know, it was supposed to be a big deal lol

Jordan was supposed to be on the Contender Asia Season 2 (which no one has heard about in a while), and has built up a strong rep

It was suppose to be a great fight, but there isn't a lot of video available yet...KEEP watching this post for the FULL video yet to be uploaded

The Biggest Loser

"The Biggest Loser" can be translated as "the most to lose." And the word "loser" here is a completely different meaning. The fact that in this reality show participants are trying to "lose" extra weight in the struggle for a cash prize. It seems to lose more weight to get more money.

Medical professionals generally advise against losing more than about two pounds a week. Rapid weight loss can cause many medical problems, including a weakening of the heart muscle, irregular heartbeat and dangerous reductions in potassium and electrolytes.

Some contestants have claimed that dangerous weight loss techniques were common among contestants.
“Contestants can get a little too crazy and they can get too thin,” she said. She said contestants are medically checked and disqualified if they are dehydrated or are found to be taking drugs or diuretics. “That is the worst part of the show,” she said. “ It’s just part of the nature of reality TV.”

Kongtaranee Payakaroon vs Wangjannoi Sor Palangchai (video)

Samart Payakaroon was arguably the best Thai fighter ever. Wangjannoi was one of the few who defeated Samart.
Samart later claimed that Wangjannoi was his toughest fight.

Watch his brother, Kongtaranee (Blue) take on Wangjannoi (Red)

Watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHZLIGTIKUI

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFMujdqjRto

Kru was talking about studying fights objectively, and looking for the story behind what happened in the fight (why does a fighter move that way? what kind of strategy did they employ to land certain techniques?)

This is MY personal take on this fight:

Although Wangjannoi showed a lot of dominance of the ring space and was definitely the aggressor, I thought what Kongtaranee was doing was far more interesting.

I found he was very good at taking advantage of where Wangjannoi placed his weight. As Wangjannoi came forward, Kongtaranee started to chop the lead leg when there was weight on it. Then Kongtaranee started get space and had Wangjannoi walking into some mean punches.

Towards the end, Kongtaranee was starting to time Wangjannoi every time he came in, and even kicked him when he put weight onto his rear leg. He was really catching Wangjannoi every time he put a lot of weight on one leg.

SPOILER:
Wangjannoi was able to press forward and dictate most of the action, which earned him the win. Despite this, there's a lot I picked up on my own from watch Kongtaranee.

While my interpretation of the fight is not necessarily the best and may also change after watching the fight several more times, it's just to show you an example of small things you can look for in any fight and add it to your personal understanding of the sport.

I'm Contributing Again by Tom P.

"So I recently decided to start contributing to Jaxscene again. I never stopped blogging- I have for the past 5 months been blogging for REAX. I started Jaxscene a little over 2 years ago to promote a scene that without much money had no way to get the word out on what was going on. With such a long passion building this blog and sometimes posting 4 to 5 times a day, recently I felt is was slipping a bit. I feel like a lot of people use this site to find out what is going on. Maybe to see some pictures and video of those events. So I feel it's important for those events that I enjoy and I feel are important to be make people aware of them. I have plans to really get involved more and take the site in a little different direction."
