"It's a surprise," Dr Karen Maples said.
"Eight newborns are in stable condition and they're doing quite well."
Doctors estimated the woman's delivery lasted only five minutes.
"They were all screaming and kicking around very vigorously," Dr Harold Henry told the TV station.
The first live-born octuplets were born in Houston in 1998, and one baby died about a week later. The surviving siblings - girls Ebuka, Gorom, Chidi, Chima and Echerem, and their brothers Ikem and Jioke - celebrated their 10th birthday in December.
Their parents, Nkem Chukwu and Iyke Louis Udobi, said they were astonished and grateful their children have grown up to be healthy and active kids.

The mother in California who gave birth to eight babies on Monday has six children already, CBS news discovered. Today on the Early Show, a segment on the now-doubled family aired. They took cameras to the home and neighborhood where the mom lives in a house with her parents, four older sons and two older daughters. Below the video is the transcript.

The site (www.thenadyasulemanfamily.com) -- which went live Tuesday -- features a photo of Suleman and her eight newborns, along with the caption "Proud Mother of 14."
Nadya Suleman received death threats
Nadya Suleman, the now-infamous mother of octuplets, has received death threats, her publicist, Joann Killeen, claims.
Killeen says the threats got so bad that Suleman, 33, and her other six children recently moved into a rented house and out of the home she was sharing with her parents in southern California.
"Because of the death threats to Nadya and her family, as well as the death threats to me and my agency, we were in a secure location last week," Killeen says on Thursday's Dr. Phil show. "When the risk was determined, it was no longer a high threat, we were able to leave that location."

Octuplets mom story takes surreal turns
Nadya Suleman's octuplets story that has drawn worldwide attention has experienced another turn of event with mother Suleman fearing that Kaiser Permanente's Bellflower Medical Center in California may not release her octuplets to her until she proves she can care for them.
Suleman told talk show host "Dr. Phil" McGraw today she feared the Medical Center would not let her take the eight babies with her. The octuplets were born on Jan. 26, 2008.
McGraw said Suleman called him this afternoon, distressed after talking with Kaiser officials.
"What she is telling me is that unless and until she has a better living arrangement, that they are not likely to release the children to her," McGraw told The Times.
Ever since the babies were born, the octuplet story has taken surreal turns. This also included huge media attention with paparazzi camping out in front of octuplet mom Nadya Suleman's Whittier home ever since she came back a few weeks ago.
The home belongs to her mother and is slated for foreclosure. Suleman has said she plans to move to a larger home that can accommodate all 14 of her children.
On Monday, a neighbor of Suleman walked out of his home with a shotgun and began yelling unspecified threats at media persons
who have been keenly following the case since, police said.
The police registered a crime report and questioned the man, who was not identified because of the ongoing investigation. However, the man said "he was tired of the attention."
